Common questions

Questions patients
ask most

Straightforward answers to the questions that come up most often. For anything specific to your health, your physician is the right person to ask.

Is PRP made from my own blood?+
Yes. PRP is autologous, which means it comes from your own body. A small sample of your blood is drawn, concentrated, and prepared as an injection during the same visit. Nothing is added from a donor or from an animal.
Does the process hurt?+
The blood draw is similar to a routine lab draw. Your physician will explain what the injection itself feels like, since that depends on the treatment area. Ask your provider about comfort and any options they offer.
How long does the visit take?+
The preparation takes a few minutes in a centrifuge, and the whole process happens in one appointment. Your office can tell you how much time to plan for.
Will my insurance cover it?+
PRP is usually not covered by insurance and is typically a self-pay service. Ask the office about the cost before you schedule so there are no surprises.
How many treatments will I need?+
That depends entirely on your situation, and only your physician can answer it. It is a good question to ask at your visit.
Is there any downtime afterward?+
Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions, including any limits on activity. Follow their guidance rather than general information you find online.
How do I know if PRP is right for me?+
This is a medical decision only your physician can make. Good questions to ask: why are you recommending PRP for my situation, what are the alternatives, what should I realistically expect, and what are the risks in my case?
